Two adjustment operations need doing before your glasses can be donned in comfort. The first is a standard phase of production, the second depends on your optician.
You may not know, but towards the end of manufacturing glasses are registered, i.e. “manipulated” by bending and flexing the front and temples to fit the face.
The golden rules of adjustment are: the front and the temple tips must touch the plane. Temples must be set so that there is a 10cm approx. gap between the tips. The front must have a specific incline to the temples – about 8° - which is known as the pantoscopic angle. These dimensions, distances and angles are based on study of the average head size of men and women.
The second and perhaps more important adjustment is performed on your face by your optician before you sashay out of the shop with glasses flaunted. The optician will adjust the temple angle, height and length so that there is a perfect fit: no slipping, no pinching above the ears.
